You will define key terms and idea, explore positive identity and reflect on the impact of your online self.

Module 3 – Digital privacy and security

The aim of this module is to help you as a language teacher recognise the risks that are a part of your own and your learners' online lives and how you can protect yourself, including your identity and data.

Course reviews

What have other teachers said about how Safeguarding learners online helped them?

"After completing the course, I integrated lessons on digital safety into my regular curriculum. For instance, during a recent lesson, I used flashcards to help students identify safe and unsafe online behaviors. By discussing scenarios such as recognizing phishing emails and understanding the importance of strong passwords, I empowered my students to be more vigilant and secure in their online interactions. This proactive approach not only enhanced their digital literacy but also contributed to creating a safer online environment for them"

Course participant, Viet Nam

"One practical example of applying safeguarding knowledge in my teaching is ensuring students understand the importance of privacy settings on educational platforms. I regularly guide them through setting appropriate privacy controls on their accounts to protect their personal information from unauthorized access. This not only empowers students to manage their digital footprint responsibly but also fosters a safer online learning environment."

Course participant, Cameroon

"One brief example of applying knowledge from a Safeguarding Learners Online course could be implementing regular digital citizenship lessons in my classroom. For instance, I now make it a point to teach students about online privacy, how to recognize credible sources, and the importance of reporting inappropriate content. This not only enhances their awareness but also fosters a safer online environment, empowering them to make informed decisions while using technology in their learning."
