How will the course help you?

By the end of Managing learning, you'll be able to:

  • identify features, components and stages of successful lesson plans
  • identify techniques for getting learners' attention, signalling transitions and responding to unexpected classroom events
  • plan techniques for managing lessons and activities.

What are the self-study modules?

Module 1 – Understanding lesson planning

The aim of this module is to consider the importance and usefulness of writing lesson plans. You'll evaluate the importance of lesson planning, identify features, components and stages of lesson plans as well as produce an effective lesson plan.

Module 2 – Managing lessons and learners

The aim of this module is to look into techniques for getting learners' attention, signalling the transition between activities and stages and responding to unexpected classroom events. You'll describe different techniques to manage your classes, evaluate a range of classroom management techniques as well as identify reasons for some types of learner behaviour in the classroom.

Module 3 – Managing activities

The aim of this module is to look at techniques for managing lessons and activities. You'll describe how to control and change pace in a lesson, use gestures to help convey instructions as well as give clear instructions to set up a classroom activity.

I needed to complete module 3 to get my certificate but the course is now closed. May I please access the course to finish it or be informed when will it be available again.

If you are already enrolled on the course then you can start the modules whenever you like. All of our courses are self-access, meaning that you can complete them at your own pace. To access the course modules you need to be logged in to TeachingEnglish, then click/tap the 'My Portfolio - my courses' tab. You will be able to start the course.

Have you clicked on the purple 'Enrol in this free course' button above? I've just checked and it's working fine for me. It will take you to the courses platform where you will see all available courses and then can click to enrol.

Thanks for your comment. If you successfully complete all the modules on this course you will receive a certificate. Once you are enrolled, complete the course in your own time, and when you have finished you will be able to see your certificate under the 'My awards' tab.
