About this training module

Understanding early literacy for primary is is a three-hour self-study training module, which is divided into three one-hour units.

The aim of this self-study training modules is to provide you with practical activities to develop early literacy using a multisensory approach. The module looks at how short stories are useful in raising phonemic awareness and showing the relationship between text, spoken words and illustrations. You’ll also look at literacy strategies which help link letters to sounds.

By the end of unit 1, you’ll be able to use short stories to introduce phonemic awareness.

By the end of unit 2, you'll be able to use a number of literacy strategies to help your learners with some of the first steps in English speaking and writing.

By the end of unit 3, you'll be able identify how to develop literacy using a multisensory approach and demonstrate how to make, write and illustrate a pop-up book.

For participants who successfully complete all tasks and achieve a score of 70% or above in the online exercises, there will be a downloadable certificate of completion at the end of each module.
