TeachingEnglish has lots of different activities for teachers who are teaching English around the world to children aged 5-12. To help you find suitable activities, we have three levels on our site. These activities for level 3 are most suitable for children who can understand and use a wide range of language and can follow a variety of complex stories and texts, including those aimed at native-speaker children. Teachers can use the levels as a guide. However, all children learn differently, so try activities from different levels at any time, especially if it is a topic they enjoy.

Hot seat

This is a good activity for getting your students going in the morning. It is also excellent for revising vocabulary.

Two word games

These games can be played throughout the school year but are also very useful as a round up at the end of term.

Spot the vocabulary

This is a visual activity which helps make the process of recalling vocabulary motivating and memorable. My students enjoy the 'suspense' aspect at the start, which really gets them involved.

Energy and renewable resources

This activity is about energy and renewable resources. It builds awareness of different energy solutions which will be necessary in the future and is aimed at learners aged ten years and up.

My new house

During the school year children can move house and change schools for various reasons. When they arrive in a new school it can be hard for them to adapt to their new classmates and for the classmates to accept a new class member. Learning a topic about moving house and changing schools will help your learners to see that it's important to accept new people and that it can be hard but exciting for those who move. 

Alien abduction

This role-play can be used with learners when covering the topic of aliens, for the practice and revision of narrative tenses or as a lead in to writing newspaper stories.

Rhyming pair game

This activity is a pronunciation and memory game. It works best if you split the class into small groups. You will need to produce a set of cards for each group with one word on each card.
