TeachingEnglish has lots of different activities for teachers who are teaching English around the world to children aged 5-12. To help you find suitable activities, we have three levels on our site. These activities for level 2 are most suitable for children who can understand and use words and sentences in common topics and situations, and can follow more complex stories and texts. Teachers can use the levels as a guide. For example, if they start to find level 2 activities too easy, you can try more level 3 activities. However, all children learn differently, so try activities from different levels at any time, especially if it is a topic they enjoy.

Working with passports

The passport section of portfolios summarizes the owner’s linguistic identity, language-learning experiences and language qualifications in an internationally transparent manner.

Collocation Pelmanism

It is often necessary to recycle new words several times in class before they become part of learners' active vocabulary, and the same is true of collocations.

Circle games

Circle games are a great way to encourage the whole class to work together. They also provide an often welcome change in working pattern.

The Christmas tree

This is a seasonal information-gap activity to practise listening and speaking with young learners. The activity requires children to describe and organise objects in a picture according to their partner's instructions.

Getting student feedback

Developing 'metacognitive awareness' (understanding of our own learning processes) is an essential skill for a learner and underlines the need for them to be active participants in the learning process.

Video lesson 1

Using animated stories is always popular with primary students.

Picture dictation

This is a low preparation fun activity that works well with large classes, especially with young learners and teens. All your students need is a blank piece of paper and all the teacher needs is a little bit of imagination.
