Nevertheless, Alderson noted increasing needs to clarify issues in three areas – corresponding to the three main sections of the book: Communicative language testing, Testing of English for specific purposes, and Testing of general language proficiency. Within each section there are three parts: the original article(s), reaction papers and an account of the discussion based upon tape recordings of the proceedings by Alderson.
