The report covers a wide array of national, regional, and local teacher training programmes regulated by the Indonesian Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology, as well as TPD initiatives led by international organisations and the private sector. The report outlines both pre-service and in-service teacher education, detailing traditional face-to-face training and recent innovations in online training.

It begins with an exploration of the current state of English language teaching in Indonesia, highlighting the differences between urban and rural areas, key teaching methodologies, and English proficiency levels across the country. This section provides vital statistics on the number of schools, teachers, and students involved in English language education, painting a detailed picture of the landscape of English language learning in Indonesia.

The report then examines the qualifications required to become an English teacher, with a focus on the pre-service education programmes offered by higher education institutions. It also discusses the national pre-service teacher certification programme (PPG) and innovations in initial English language teacher education.

In-service professional development opportunities are extensively reviewed, including government-regulated programmes, initiatives by national and regional teacher associations, and offerings by international organisations such as the British Council.

The report concludes with insights from English Language Teaching (ELT) experts on future trends in teacher professional development and their recommendations for fostering continuous improvement in English language education across Indonesia.

This report serves as a valuable resource for educators, academics, and policymakers dedicated to advancing the quality of English teaching in Indonesia.
