Supporting teachers’ ongoing professional development is one of the professional practices in the British Council's teacher educator framework. This practice involves being able to explain, in a manner that motivates teachers, the value of professional development. It also requires familiarity with ways to increase teachers’ awareness and experience of a range of individual and collaborative professional development activities, including those that make use of technology. It involves advising and mentoring teachers, including through developmental lesson observations and post-lesson discussions as well as providing regular opportunities for teachers to develop their reflective skills. Knowledge of how to guide teachers in defining their own career goals and identifying professional development action plans to support these goals is also an important aspect.
