In episode 5 we ask the question: How can we assess more fairly and effectively? We start by discussing the ideas of validity, reliability and accessibility in assessment. Then we talk to Professor Barry O'Sullivan, Head of Assessment Research and Development at the British Council. Barry explores current issues around fair assessment and how it might change in the future. Finally, we talk with Massamba Seck, a teacher and trainer from Senegal. He explains practical ways to make assessment fair and effective and how this can help learners to succeed.

How to assess learners more fairly and effectively?
Whether technology is involved or not, assessment should be fair and effective, there should be a balance in the use of technology where human interaction and personalized teaching are prioritized along with technological advancement. Formative assessment can be vital when considering a fair and effective assessment. The use of local language to prompt learners response in assessment is also important. it makes them more willing to respond and give positive feedback.
This is a very honest approach of assessment should be fair as well as effective which can help learner to take ownership of their own learning and its reflection the way they are comfortable. It should not be based on grades but based on their capabilities and skills along with the knowledge they reflect and imbibe.
