Here you can watch the videos of webinars showing how different people learn and how we can use this knowledge when planning our classes. Our speakers share teaching tips and techniques for lesson plans that meet the needs of all learners. You will find out about how drawing content summaries can make lessons more accessible and how to focus on learners’ needs when planning to make your classes more learning-centred. The live event took place on 12 February 2025.

Every learner is different, and it is essential to adapt our lessons to meet everyone’s needs. In this workshop, we first explore specific learning differences as well as ways to overcome barriers to learning, such as developing literacy and digital skills. Then Emily shares simple teaching activities and tips that have made her own lessons more accessible, including using colourful and creative graphic facilitation techniques.

What if we flipped the logic of lesson planning? Most of our daily planning focuses on what we want to do so that learners achieve learning outcomes. However, how many times do we really put ourselves into our learners’ shoes while planning? In this session, we explore how people learn and, therefore, how they might be taught. By the end of the webinar, you will have ideas on how to create learning-centred lesson plans, teaching and assessment strategies.

About the speakers
Emily Bryson has over 20 years’ experience in the ELT classroom and has written various print and digital materials for major publishers. She is passionate about diversity, equity and inclusion and the use of visual tools and graphic facilitation strategies to make learning more engaging, accessible and fun. Gabriel Díaz Maggioli is a teacher who applies the lessons learned in the classroom to his roles as teacher educator, researcher and author. He is currently academic coordinator of the post-graduate Diploma in English language teaching at Universidad ORT Uruguay. He was President of IATEFL from 2019–2024.
Amir Esmaeli teaches learners of all ages in Vietnam, where he also coordinates and trains teachers. He considers himself a lifelong learner whose motto is 'there is always room for improvement!'.
Josipa Kardum is an autistic primary school teacher with 16 years of experience working in her home country, Croatia. She is passionate about sharing her experiences teaching neurodivergent school-aged pupils.
Khanyisa Makhubele is a primary teacher in South Africa who is also currently studying for a post-graduate diploma in inclusive education. She believes that with training, educators can tackle any challenges they face in their classrooms.
