About this event

In this first event of our series on Managing the lesson, two of our TeachingEnglish course tutors will give a practical introduction to different aspects of managing classroom learning. Join us to learn practical ideas for how to create a dynamic and positive learning environment in your classroom. In the second session, discover strategies for dealing with noisy classrooms, and how to manage activities and transitions to ensure that learners are motivated and on-task.

In this webinar, two of our TeachingEnglish Facebook tutors will give an interactive and practical introduction to our theme for January, February and March: Managing the lesson. You will explore different aspects of Managing the lesson, like organisation of the physical classroom, setting up activities effectively, managing pace and timing, and how to maintain positive learner engagement and behaviour. Huma and Zaineb will also give an overview of which professional development opportunities can help you grow in this area.

Noisy classrooms are a reality for most teachers – but they don't have to be a barrier to learning. In this interactive webinar, you will learn tried-and-tested strategies to keep learners focused and motivated even in large, noisy classes. Fatiha will share creative tips to manage groups that will show you how to use pauses and signal transitions to ensure that learners keep on track. By the end of the session, you'll have practical techniques to ensure a positive learning environment for all your learners.

About the speakers

Fatiha Najma Yustisia is an English teacher at a private secondary school in Indonesia. She has been teaching English in various contexts since 2018 and has taught general English to teenagers, English for specific purposes and exam preparation classes. She is currently building her own private language institution focusing on exam preparation courses. Besides teaching she often speaks publicly about youth empowerment. Fatiha spoke about social emotional learning (SEL) at our World Teachers' Day conference in 2023. Huma Hasna Riaz Ahmed is a teacher, teacher educator, and classroom researcher with over 20 years of experience across India, the UAE, and the UK, including 16 years with the British Council. She currently teaches in the UAE and delivers training online. Her work focuses on inclusive and reflective practice that empowers both students and teachers as agents of change. She carries out classroom research on plurilingual pedagogy. She’s a current tutor for TeachingEnglish’s Courses for Teachers Facebook group. https://www.facebook.com/groups/coursesforteachers  

Zaineb Shebani is a teacher and teacher educator from Libya with over 20 years of experience. She currently works as a moderator and teacher educator for the British Council, supporting teachers across the MENA region in their professional development. Passionate about empowering teachers and fostering engaging, learner-centred classrooms, she is dedicated to helping educators grow and inspire their students. Our webinars are free. They take place in Zoom events. Click the 'Register to join us on Zoom' button to register to join live. You can also watch the event on our Facebook or YouTube page.

Webinar recordings

All TeachingEnglish webinars are recorded, and you will find links to the recordings under the session information on this page between 24 and 48 hours after the live webinar has ended. You can also find the videos on the TeachingEnglish YouTube channel. Recordings will be available to watch for a minimum of six months and up to one year after the live event has ended.

Webinar handouts

PDF handouts from each presenter will be available after the webinars.

Certificates

Certificates of attendance are available for all attendees. You will receive a 'Thank you for attending' email after the webinar if you registered and watched on Zoom. You should receive this within 72 hours of the live event. 

You should download the certificate to your computer. Once the certificate is saved to your computer, open it and type your name on the certificate. We recommend using Google Chrome or Internet Explorer to do this. You cannot do this from a mobile device.
