About this event

In July–September 2025, TeachingEnglish is focusing on the theme of Assessing learning. In this first event of the series, we start with a practical introduction to assessing learning from two of our TeachingEnglish course tutors. They will give an overview of different types of assessment, explore practical feedback strategies and share tasks you can use to assess your learners' level and progress.

In the second session we will take a deep dive into how, why and when to give feedback on pronunciation. Join us to boost your assessment literacy and help your learners grow in confidence!

In this webinar our two current TeachingEnglish training course tutors give an interactive and practical introduction to our theme for July, August and September: Assessing learning. With them you will learn about types of assessment, types of feedback, how to design tasks to assess your learners' level and progress, and more. Watch this session to reflect on your and your learners' assessment literacy and find out what professional development opportunities can help you grow in this area.

Join this interactive webinar to boost your confidence in teaching pronunciation. We will look at common error-correction techniques, such as recasts, repetitions and clarification requests, and evaluate their effectiveness in raising learners' awareness about pronunciation. Next, we will explore how to assess pronunciation and look at supportive and inclusive approaches to providing feedback. Finally, we will share useful tips to incorporate into your lessons. This workshop is aimed at all teachers at all experience and skills levels who want to improve their pronunciation teaching.

About the speakers

Stephen Mander is one of our Courses for Teachers Facebook group tutors. He is a teacher and teacher educator working in Portgual and has over 20 years of experience working with teachers and students in Asia, the Middle East, Africa and Europe. He holds a DELTA and since 2015 has been running and designing training and mentoring programmes for both experienced and novice teachers and teacher educators.  

Rabia Shafi is also one of our Courses for Teachers Facebook group tutors. She's a teacher educator and materials developer with over 20 years of experience working with educators across Asia, the Middle East, the Americas and Africa. She holds an MPhil in Applied Linguistics. Rabia designs and implements training programmes for teachers and teacher educators in public schools. She lives and works in Pakistan. 

Ana Paula Biazon Rocha is from São Paulo, Brazil, and currently lives in Sheffield, UK. She has been teaching English for almost 19 years. She is a teacher development (TD) coordinator and the Assistant Director of Studies at the English Language Teaching Centre, University of Sheffield. She has specialised in English pronunciation and pronunciation pedagogy. She is a committee member and blogger for IATEFL PronSIG special interest group

Our webinars are free. They take place in Zoom events. Click the 'Register to join us on Zoom' button to register to join live. You can also watch the event on our Facebook or YouTube page.

Webinar recordings

All TeachingEnglish webinars are recorded, and you will find links to the recordings under the session information on this page between 24 and 48 hours after the live webinar has ended. You can also find the videos on the TeachingEnglish YouTube channel. Recordings will be available to watch for a minimum of six months and up to one year after the live event has ended.

Webinar handouts

PDF handouts from each presenter will be available after the webinars.

Certificates

Certificates of attendance are available for all attendees. You will receive a 'Thank you for attending' email after the webinar if you registered and watched on Zoom. You should receive this within 72 hours of the live event. 

You should download the certificate to your computer. Once the certificate is saved to your computer, open it and type your name on the certificate. We recommend using Google Chrome or Internet Explorer to do this. You cannot do this from a mobile device.
