About this event

Artificial intelligence (AI) is increasingly influencing teaching and learning. However, many teacher education programmes still struggle to integrate AI in meaningful and pedagogically informed ways. This webinar will explore how AI can be incorporated into teacher education as an intentional practice that supports autonomy, reflective practice and metacognitive awareness, rather than being viewed simply as a shortcut or technical tool.

Drawing on examples from a fully online teacher education course, the session will examine how approaches such as flipped learning and project-based frameworks can be structured so that trainees use prompt crafting and digital notebooks to document their learning processes. Participants will also explore a gamified assessment model that promotes creativity, ethical decision making and responsible AI use.

About the speaker

Mariana Hidalgo is an ELT specialist, teacher educator and educational consultant based in Buenos Aires, Argentina. She leads the formal integration of AI into the curriculum of a national English teacher training programme, and her work sits at the intersection of motivation, social and emotional learning and AI with a particular focus on how explicit AI integration supports trainee autonomy and reflective practice.

Mariana has presented for organisations and professional communities, including IATEFL, TESOL, Trinity College London, the British Council Argentina, the Cambridge Assessment Department (UK) and IATEFL LITSIG. She is a committee member of IATEFL LAMSIG and a committee member and speaker of the Education Group of SAIA (Argentine Society of Artificial Intelligence).

How to watch the webinar

Our webinars are free. They take place on Zoom. Click the ’Register to join us on Zoom’ button to register to join live. You can also watch the event on our Facebook or YouTube page.

Webinar recordings

All TeachingEnglish webinars are recorded, and you will find links to the recordings under the session information on this page between 24 and 48 hours after the live webinar has ended. You can also find the videos on the TeachingEnglish YouTube channel. Recordings will be available to watch for a minimum of six months and up to one year after the live event has ended.

Certificates and handouts

Certificates of attendance are available for all attendees. You will receive a ’Thank you for attending’ email after the webinar if you registered and watched on Zoom. You should receive this within 72 hours of the live event.

You should download the certificate to your computer. Once the certificate is saved to your computer, open it and type your name on the certificate. We recommend using Google Chrome or Internet Explorer to do this. You cannot do this from a mobile device.

A handout for each session will be provided with useful links and resources related to the session. You can download the handout from this page after the event.
