Kieran Donaghy - Short and sweet: Using short films to promote creativity and communication

In this workshop, Kieran explores how short films can be used in the classroom. He looks at how we can use short films to promote creativity and both oral and written communication by taking part in communicative activities based around a variety of short films.

This practical workshop provides hands-on activities and real-world examples, ensuring educators leave with ready-to-use tools for their classrooms. These activities not only enhance language skills but also encourage learners to think critically and creatively.

Kieran's approach includes various techniques that can help your learners improve their language proficiency while still enjoying the learning process. Just some of these include:

  • storytelling – encouraging your students to create their own narratives based on short films, helping them improve the skills when it comes to structuring coherent stories

  • scriptwriting – helping to improve your students' writing skills through precise language use and creativity

  • role playing – acting out scenes from short films can help your students to practice pronunciation, listening and emotion. Role playing can also help to boost the confidence of your learners in a supportive environment.
