About TeachingEnglish webinars
- TeachingEnglish live online events
TeachingEnglish webinars for teachers offer opportunities for our global audience of English teachers to learn from experienced ELT practitioners. The aim is for participants to gain knowledge and skills that they can use in their day-to-day teaching and to advance their careers in English language teaching. The emphasis is on motivation, inspiration and practical ideas for teachers' classrooms and career development. Our live events also offer the chance to share expertise across different countries and regions, and help people stay up to date with the latest research and innovations in English language teaching.

TeachingEnglish webinars for teacher educators offer opportunities for our global community of professionals who support teacher learning – including mentors, trainers, supervisors, researchers, inspectors, materials writers and CoP leaders – to learn from experienced practitioners in teacher education and ELT. The aim is to help participants deepen their knowledge of teacher development, strengthen their mentoring, facilitation and training practices, and gain new strategies that they can apply directly in the teacher-education context.

- The TeachingEnglish audience
Teachers
The TeachingEnglish audience is mainly English language teachers working in primary and secondary state schools all over the world. We have smaller numbers working in private or semi-private institutions and EFL language schools. Our biggest audience is secondary English teachers, followed by primary teachers and some teachers of adults. We try to reflect this in our programming, so please state if your webinar is aimed at primary or secondary teachers and/or teachers of adults.
Teacher educators
We also have a significant teacher educator audience, including teacher trainers, researchers, managers, materials writers, etc., and a number of pre-service teachers.
- Why participate?
This is a unique opportunity to collaborate with the British Council, showcasing your expertise on a global platform that reaches six million English teachers and teacher educators a year.
You will receive a TeachingEnglish presenter's certificate and benefit from our feedback on your presentation.
You will also have the opportunity to connect with colleagues who are authorities in English language teaching and who may offer you further development opportunities. We are committed to giving a global platform to diverse voices, especially those of practising teachers and teacher educators from different contexts around the world.
Planning your webinar – webinars for teachers
- Planning your webinar
You can apply as an individual presenter or as a collaboration of two people. Please only submit ONE form per webinar proposal.
- Webinar format
Each webinar is one hour in total, including 40–45 minutes for the speaker presentation and 10–15 minutes for audience questions. At the end, the host will come back on camera for an informal chat with the presenter and to answer a selection of audience questions.
- Platform features
Our online events use a 3,000-capacity Zoom Events platform. Within Zoom Events, there is no option for breakout rooms, and participants have cameras and microphones switched off. We engage the audience as much as possible using the chat, poll and reaction features. Participants' questions for the presenter will be saved for the end using the Q&A function. We also stream webinar events via Facebook and share the recordings of sessions on YouTube and the TeachingEnglish website.
- Copyright and safeguarding
Please note the following to ensure that your proposed webinar can be broadcast, recorded and shared publicly.
- All content shared must follow copyright laws and intellectual property rights.
- Do not use any images or videos of your students or colleagues or other people in your slides.
- Consent must be obtained from adults whose persona or stories are going to be shared. Please keep this in mind when planning the content of your webinar.
- Planning a successful webinar
Our most important aim is to help our webinar participants in their day-to-day teaching or teacher-training work. Consequently, we ask all presenters to ensure that their sessions share classroom examples to illustrate theory in practice. We're looking for practical sessions with ideas and strategies that teachers and teacher educators can apply to their own teaching context. Successful proposals will also include plenty of opportunities for interaction and participation within the webinar. This year, we're looking for webinars that fit the following themes:
Understanding my context
Knowing the subject (understanding English language systems and how to teach them)
Understanding my professional identity (evaluating your professional needs and interests, defining career goals and finding opportunities to learn, develop and apply that learning in the classroom)
Assessing learning
Using digital technologies
Using multilingual approaches
Using inclusive practices
Climate action in language teaching
21st-century/core skills.
For a more detailed understanding of these themes, visit our Professional development for teachers page.

- Alternative opportunities
Speakers with strong proposals but who have less experience of conference or online speaking may be selected for our webinar speaker mentoring scheme. If you apply, you will be considered for global TeachingEnglish events as well as regional ones. With your permission, we may contact you for related opportunities such as social media lives, poster presentations and video creation projects.
- Biodata
Please provide brief biodata for each speaker (max. 100 words) on the form. Please write in the third person and mention where you are from and where you teach. Note that these descriptions will be used to promote your event if you are selected. (See the bottom of any event page in Webinars for teachers for examples.)
- Webinar abstract
Participants will read this abstract to decide whether to attend your talk, so please write in English and please include information about what they will learn. Example sentences:
This workshop will start by taking a look at ...; I will show you how to ...
The next stage of the workshop will look at ...; You will learn how to ...; Finally, we will ...

Hi Peggy-Paul,
We offer mentoring and support to our speakers. We absolutely love content from teachers reflecting on their teaching and real-world practices. If you are worried about the application, why don't you watch a couple of our webinars and think about the areas you feel confident to speak about. Take a look at the form and post your questions about the form here.
