How much do courses cost?

All courses are free.

What level of English do I need?

All our course content is written so that teachers with at least B1-level understanding can follow them.

How long are the courses?

Courses usually take around 12 hours to complete, though you can study at your own pace during the time that the course is open. Courses generally have five modules:

  • Getting started: Introduction to the course platform, which you just need to complete once

  • Resources module: Downloadable support materials.

Please remember you will need to complete all modules and download or view all resource documents in order to receive your certificate.

How can I get a certificate?

You will need to successfully complete all self-study modules in order to receive a certificate of completion. You also need to download or view all resource documents. Every unit needs to show as 100% complete in order to successfully complete the course.

When you have successfully completed your course, your certificate will be available to download or view in the My certificates section in the training platform. Select My courses and you will see My certificates at the top of the screen.

Where is my certificate?

When you have successfully completed your course, your certificate will be available to download or view in the My certificates section in the training platform. Select My courses and you will see My certificates at the top of the screen.

How can I change the name on my certificate?

Names on certificates are taken from your personal details in your free TeachingEnglish account. To change your name, go to My account in TeachingEnglish. Select Edit profile. Update the details on your profile page and save the new details. On the course platform where you access your training, please use the 'Help’ button to request a new certificate.

What do the levels mean? (Awareness, Understanding, Engagement, Integration)

Each course has been assigned to a level: Awareness, Understanding, Engagement, Integration. These refer to levels of teacher professional development on our CPD framework.

  • Awareness: You have heard of this professional practice, but do not yet know enough to include it in your teaching.
  • Understanding: You know what the professional practice is and why it is important, and have started to include it in your teaching.
  • Engagement: You demonstrate your understanding and confidence in this professional practice in areas of your work.
  • Integration: You demonstrate a high level of competency in this professional practice, and this consistently informs what you do at work.

If you are unable to progress, please write to us at TeachingEnglish@britishcouncil.org and if you can send us a screenshot of what you are seeing, that will help us to resolve the issue. Thanks,
Jo (TeachingEnglish team)

Why can't I register on Zoom for the webinar on Wednesday, August 19th at 3:30 PM?

Is it possible to do this course if one doesn't have a facebook account?

Hi!
You don't need a Facebook account to complete the course.
I hope that helps!

Hi,
I want to ask about the courses that I enrolled, would it be possible to arrange the course according to my availability, or do I have to follow the course's fixed schedule?
Thank you!

Hi!
The courses are self access so you can work through the units at your own pace.
Please note that some of our courses close on 30 September and after that date you'll no longer have access. So, please check your course dates carefully and ensure you'll have enough time to complete all the units.
I hope that helps :-)
Best wishes,
Jo (TeachingEnglish team)

Dear TeachingEnglish Support Team,

I have completed the Introduction and all three modules of “TeachingEnglish: Communicative tasks”. Each section shows 100% completion, but I cannot find my certificate. The course overview previously showed 80% overall progress.

Could you please check my course completion status and let me know if anything else is required to access my certificate?

I have attached screenshots for reference.

Hi!
It sounds as if you've completed all the self-study modules. You also need to download or view all resource documents. Can you check that you've done that please?
Your certificate should be available to download or view in the 'My awards’ section in the training platform. Click on MY PORTFOLIO – My courses and you will see 'My awards’ at the top of the screen.
If you're still having problems, please write to us here: https://www.teachingenglish.org.uk/Contact-us
Best wishes

It helps all newcomer and passionately encourage everyone to go ahead. Really a wonderful job!

Hi, I've just completed one of your online courses (Teaching Pronunciation) but have had a problem with one of the Introduction modules not loading (just goes to a blank page). I'm not having any luck with the 'help' message system - 3 attempts and I just keep getting the same automated messages. The problem is that I've completed the rest of the course but can't obtain my certificate as this one module is showing as 'not completed'. Is there anyone (a real person!) who can help me please? Thanks.

I completed my one course but not received the certificate

I have finished some courses. I would like to know if I can access my courses when they're finished.

Hi LouiseTo,

Congratulations on finishing the courses. The course content is open until the dates published on the website for each one, and we encourage people to download the resources for each course and the workbook so you can continue to work on the themes covered,

https://www.teachingenglish.org.uk/training
I hope that’s helpful,

May I know whether I can edit my name on the certificate? My name is Thida Oo, but I was given the name Thida OO ThidaOO on my certificate. I have no idea how I could solve this problem. Do I need to restart the course? Thank you for your time and consideration. I am looking to hear from you very soon.

Hi Thida

Thanks for your comment. The name on your certificate is taken from the username from your TeachingEnglish account. You can change this and then request a new certificate using the 'Help’ button on the courses page. Don’t worry - you won’t need to take the course again :)

Here’s a video that explains how to change your username on your account: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cdTYHfFTzh4&t=3s

Hope that helps - let us know if you have further questions,

Thanks,

Cath

Hello. I already completed the three unit lessons with 100% progress and with a score of 60%-100% on each unit assessment but with the overall course progress, I'm still stuck at 86%. I didn't miss anything. Will I still get a free certificate? Thank you.

Hi

Thanks for your comment.

This sometimes happens if you haven’t downloaded all the resources from the modules. Can you try that and then see if your progress is reflected?

If not, can you contact the courses team using the orange 'help’ button on the courses page? They should be able to help you directly.

Thanks and hope you have enjoyed the course!

Cath

Hi I would like to unenroll in courses I am supposed to start tomorrow because I will not be able to take them. Please let me know.

Thanks.

Maria

Hi SusyPB61

Thanks for your message.

I’m not sure it’s possible to unenroll from courses. Remember you have quite a lot of time to complete the courses and, as they are self-access, you can complete them in your own time. If you don’t complete the courses, don’t worry - they will be taken down from the platform after the closing date.

Hope that helps,

Cath

TeachingEnglish team

I have not finished the courses that I enrolled in and Today is the final day of enrolment, does this mean that I won't be able to continue the courses after today?

Hi Lakhder_Kd

Once the course has finished, you won’t be able to access the content I’m afraid. All of our course dates are published on our training pages, along with our annual course calendar.

You are still able to download the course workbook which has lots of useful resources and links.

Hope that helps,

Cath

Hello
I'm a new teacher. I'd love to know if the matters of how to choose what to deliver to students needs a course, and If your it's included in offered ones.
Thank you

Hi Salim-Hassouni

Thanks for your comment.

We are currently running a planning lessons course which might be useful for you - you will learn how to plan engaging language and topic-based lessons by identifying and applying commonly used lesson models. Explore techniques for introducing new language, writing achievable learning outcomes, and planning warmers and lead-ins.

You can enrol now until 24 December: https://www.teachingenglish.org.uk/training/courses/teachingenglish-planning-lessons

Hope that helps!

Cath

Do these courses count for academic credit or for professional registration?

Hi seham19

Thanks for your comment.

All of our teacher training courses are designed to help you in your own professional development as a teacher, to improve your teaching practice and to help you with theory and practical ideas for the classroom. They are not official courses for academic credit or professional qualifications.

Thanks,

Cath

Hi again

Our courses are all aimed at teachers who teach learners of different ages and levels, including adults. If you are interested in learning English, I’m afraid we don’t offer courses for learning English here at TeachingEnglish.
