Welcome to 'Classroom management for primary'

How will the course help you?

Give your primary learners the best environment to learn English by improving your management of instructions, learning activities, resources and physical space.

What does the course include?

Classroom management for primary is a free self-study training course, which is divided into three hour modules. It also includes:

  • A dedicated Facebook community of course participants with up-to-date insight, resources and innovative ideas for you to try out.
  • Engaging discussions taking place in the Facebook community
  • Live events with your course tutor and language teaching experts.
  • A free workbook with extra learning content and resources.

What will you learn?

Module 1: Understanding language use and instructions for primary

This module focuses on teacher and learner classroom language and how to give clear instructions when setting up activities.

By the end of this module, you will be able to:

- discuss when it’s relevant to use English and the learners’ own language in the classroom
- recognise the benefits of reformulation
- distinguish between good and poor instructions and use various instruction techniques.

Module 2: Understanding activities and classroom space for primary

This module explores ways of managing activities effectively, organising pair and group work, and making use of space in the classroom.

By the end of the first unit of this module, you’ll be able to:

- select the best way to get attention from your learners
- recognise the benefits of pair and group work
- recognise the difference between stir and settle activities
- respond to different needs that arise while leading activities
- describe how classroom space can be used for a range of activities
- solve common problems related to managing activities.

Module 3: Understanding resources

This module offers teaching resources for a range of contexts and a framework to evaluate them.

By the end of the first unit of this module, you’ll be able to:

- determine your views on the use of teaching and learning aids
- list a range of teaching and learning aids
- identify the issues with and advantages of course books
- identify common reference resources and their specific uses
- identify and evaluate supplementary materials.

I'm about to finish the last module, do I still get a certificate is the course has "ended"?

As long we you successfully completed all the course modules you will receive a certificate. Once you have finished, you will find it under the "My awards" tab on the course platform.

How can I get a certificate? I completele all tasks and achieve a score of 80% but I can't get a certificate in my awards page

If you haven't received your certificate, can you write to the courses team directly? They should be able to help you. You can contact them by using the orange "help" button on the courses page.

Hi ,I Started with the course and finished the second unit, but it ahows that i havent done that unit.How to proceed to unit 3 now and why does it say like this?

Thanks for your comment. I've just checked your account and it is showing that Module 2 is completed - you should be able to navigate to the next unit. Can you try again to start module 3? Let us know if you are still having problems.

I am currently logged into my account. I tried to click on that “enrol on this free course” button but the page isn’t available for some reason, it says “ OOPS! SOMETHING LOOKS TO HAVE GONE WRONG
ERROR
WE ARE SORRY, BUT THE PAGE YOU REQUESTED HAS TRIGGERED AN ERROR. PLEASE TRY AGAIN LATER.” What should i do? Also i can’t find those 3 horizontal lines to get to the “MY PORTFOLIO” page, they’re just simply not there…

Certificates are available to participants who complete 100% of the course material. To access your certificate, go to the course platform where you have done your training. Click or tap 'My awards'. If you have completed 100% of the course, your certificate should be available to download. 

If you do not see your certificate, please use the 'Help' button on the course platform.

Firstly, make sure you are logged in to your TeachingEnglish account, then you can click on this link: https://open.teachingenglish.org.uk/Home/ExploreProgrammes to go to our courses platform. From there you can see all our available courses and can click to enrol in the ones that interest you.
