What are the self-study modules?

Module 1 – Understanding teacher language for primary

This module has two aims: to examine the teacher's use of English and the learners' own language to maximise opportunities for positive interaction and learning in the classroom, and to explore and practise techniques for giving clear instructions when setting up activities.

Module 2 – Understanding activities and classroom space for primary

The aim of this module is to examine ways that teachers can effectively manage activities to include a variety of interaction patterns. It looks at the benefits of pair and group work, techniques for signalling the start and end of activities, and how classroom space can be used effectively.

Module 3 – Understanding classroom interaction for primary

The aim of this module is to examine how you can create a positive and productive learning environment by the way you communicate and interact with your primary learners. You will recognise how interaction styles affect the learning environment, describe different methods of monitoring and giving feedback and their benefits as well as use praise and encouragement to create a positive learning environment.

To enrol on the course you need to follow the steps under "How do I register for the course?" above.

Firstly, make sure you are logged in to your TeachingEnglish account, then you can click on this link: https://open.teachingenglish.org.uk/Home/ExploreProgrammes to go to our courses platform. From there you can see all our available courses and can click to enrol in the ones that interest you.

Certificates are available to participants who complete 100% of the course material. To access your certificate, go to the course platform where you have done your training. Click or tap 'My awards'. If you have completed 100% of the course, your certificate should be available to download.

I am currently logged into my account. I tried to click on that “enrol on this free course” button but the page isn’t available for some reason, it says “ OOPS! SOMETHING LOOKS TO HAVE GONE WRONG
ERROR
WE ARE SORRY, BUT THE PAGE YOU REQUESTED HAS TRIGGERED AN ERROR. PLEASE TRY AGAIN LATER.” What should i do? Also i can’t find those 3 horizontal lines to get to the “MY PORTFOLIO” page, they’re just simply not there…

The classroom management course is showing as running next on 07/01/26.

Is this for sure or a placeholder?

Thanks for your comment. Yes - the course will be running from 7 January 2026. Enrolment usually starts a few weeks before. It's not possible (or necessary!) to book a place - the best thing to do is to sign up for our newsletter so that you will get a reminder of when the course registration opens. To register, you need to click the purple button above 'Enrol on this free course'. When you have done that, you will be able to access the modules by clicking on the 'My Portfolio - my courses' tab at the top of the page when you log in.

Thanks for your comment. If you are already enrolled in the course, then you have until March 31st to complete all the modules. If you do that, you will get your certificate of completion for the course.

I want to do this course and it says it will be closed by 30/03/2026, but it is 27/03/2026 today and it is already closed :(
What can I do? Please help!

Thanks for your message. Although the course ends on 31/03, the final date for registration was last week - most of our courses close for registration a week before the end date to allow all participants to complete all the modules. 

You can still download the free course workbook, which has lots of useful links and resources related to the course content.
