Course reviews

What have other teachers said about how How to teach reading helped them?

"I have applied strategies from this course to make reading more engaging for my students. For instance, I use predicting activities before introducing a text, encouraging learners to guess key vocabulary and ideas based on the title. This helps activate their prior knowledge and makes reading more interactive. Additionally, I incorporate skimming and scanning exercises to develop their reading strategies, rather than relying on word-for-word reading."

Course participant, United Kingdom

"I applied the skill of predicting before reading an authentic text with my learners. For instance, when we were reading a short article about climate change, I first asked my students to look at the title and any pictures and predict what the article might be about. This helped activate their prior knowledge and engage them with the content before diving into the details. It also encouraged them to think critically and made the reading task more manageable. This strategy allowed them to read with a clearer purpose and improved their comprehension."

Course participant, Viet Nam

"I used to only concentrate on the task and then, set up post-reading activities. But since taking your course I started working more on pre-reading activities and be more open about what texts to use and that made a huge difference in how my students learned."

Course participant, Singapore
