Course reviews

What have other teachers said about how Gender in language education helped them?

"The course content shows how important it is to consider each individual in my classroom as a student before everything. The acquired knowledge is helpful for me to consider:
- paying attention in all learners regardless of their gender;
- getting rid off stereotypes;
- creating a conducive learning environment where everyone feels comfortable and valued."

Course participant, Comoros

"In one of my recent classes, I noticed that the male students were dominating group discussions. Using strategies from the course, I rearranged the seating to encourage mixed-gender group work and set clear guidelines to ensure everyone had equal speaking time. This helped create a more balanced and inclusive environment where the female students felt more confident to participate."

Course participant, Bangladesh

"Similar to one of the video of the classroom situation, I asked my students about the usual "who plays the role" if the profession or job is like this. Then, I let them realize that, women can also play the role like men do. For instance in air force etc."

Course participant, Philippines

Societal concept of gender and politics around it have become a landscape of new ideas and it has a great impact on our everyday living experiences.Language as a system is changing with the changing perception of gender, and it is necessary for a language teacher to be aware of about the paradigm shift in the use of
language happening around us.

Hello. I've completed 100% of the course material. However, the certificate is not available. Although all the tasks are done, the progress % on modules 1 and 2 is not 100%. Sadly, it's not possible to send you screenshots of the course... I kindly ask you to check what's wrong and not give a generic response like "If you have completed 100% of the course, your certificate should be available to download." because, clearly, the results of the progress are not matching with the results presented at the end of each module.

Hi vandanunes

Sorry to hear you are having problems with this. Please can you use the orange "Help" button on the courses page to report this issue to the course team, who should be able to help you.

Many thanks to the organization of British Council for the trainings of Teacher Development and I hope many more to come. I believe now that we, teachers are getting well aware of gender representations in the coursebooks and applying some strategies to promote gender equality and remove barriers in the classrooms after taking this course. Thanks again for the resources.

This is my first time doing a course on British Council web and I would like to express how glad I feel. Now I can notice gender differences in English classes ( exercises, comments, texts) as a volunteer teacher for Spanish students. Very good to share opinions with other teachers. And what about LGTBI students? Maybe a module dedicated would be one idea. However, it would be a good idea to find time spent doing this course on the certificate

I'm glad I got to enroll in such a helpful course! However, there are some technical problems with the scoring and marking. Somehow the system keeps on showing that I'm at 0% and incomplete when I have done all the questions in the task. I'd be great if it's fixed so I won't be marked as 0% anymore...

Hi iram,

First you have to be on the course website. You can find 'My courses' in the 'My learning' tab at the top.

After you go to the 'My courses' page, if the you can see the course there then you are enrolled.

If not, you need to click on the 'Home' tab then the green 'Explore all courses' button. Then you can click 'Enrol in activity' for this course.

Best wishes,
