What are the self-study modules in Digital citizenship and online skills?

Module 1 – Digital footprint

The aim of this module is to help you as a language teacher know how you leave a footprint or trail as you navigate your online life and why you must be aware of that footprint and its influence on your and your learners' futures. You will learn how your footprint is built and where it can be found, what impact this footprint can have and how to build one that serves you well.

Module 2 – Digital empathy

The aim of this module is to help you as a language teacher think about yourself and your learners as part of the online community, and how your words and actions can have a positive impact on that community.

Module 3 – Critical thinking online

The aim of this module is to help you as a language teacher differentiate between different types of digital media and guide your learners to think critically about the information they encounter online. You will explore different types of media, how they can be manipulated to influence outcomes as well as learning to sort truth from fake news.

Hi Mohammed,

I'm really sorry that you haven't been able to start the course yet - here in 'TeachingEnglish' comments we can offer general advice but usually if there are deeper problems it's because of the mix of the site and your computer. Where are you in the process when you can't go any further? Are you logged into teaching English? Can you see 'My portfolio'? (If you can you should simply see the course, if you can't see it, you should be able to use the technical 'HELP' button to get more help). Have you followed all the steps laid out on the 'How do I sign up for the course' instructions?   Hope some of this helps and you can meet other colleagues and the educators on the course soon:). Let us know if you have accessed it :)

Hi, I enrolled in a new course "Teaching pathways: Online skills for 21st-century teachers" and when I saw the course progress, it is mentioned that I have completed 25% when I have not even started yet! what should I do, and why is this happening?

Hi,

That sounds strange - did you start the course the last time it was running? If not, then can you use the Help button in the course to register this problem with the technical team to see if they can solve it? Thanks!

I can't join to my course. I've finished module 1 but when I logged again I didn't find the course page .It returned me again to my profile

Hi Engy,

I'm sorry to hear that you can't find the course again, usually logging out of all devices that you have logged into TeachingEnglish with then logging back in sorts most problems, also if that fails, doing the same after clearing 'cache' also helps. Hope you can rejoin soon and look forward to seeing you there.

Hi,

I am sorry to hear that. Log out of TeachingEnglish on all your devices, then log back in on the device you are using to follow the course. Look for 'My Portfolio' - then 'My courses - then 'my learning' - and then 'my courses' - you should see the course heading. Scroll down to 'start the course'. You are automatically enrolled.  Hope you enjoy the course!

Hi,

I am sorry you are having this problem.

Log in, above your personal details do you see a menu bar? If on a mobile click the three lines to open the Menu.

Do you see a Menu option My portfolio? If you do, click My courses.

If you don't see the My portfolio menu, return to the Training page and follow the steps to Visit our course website

Hope that helps!

Hi Fakhr,

I am sorry to hear that. If you have created an account, make sure you are logged in. Then you will see a tab next to the Home button on the top of this page that says "My Portfolio" - if you click on this and then "My courses", this will take you to the courses homepage.   From here you can click on "Explore all courses" (a green tab on the right) - you will be able to see all the available courses, and can click on "Enrol in activity" for the course that interest you.

Hope that helps, hope you enjoy the course!
