Climate action in language education

How will the course help you?

By the end of Climate action in language education, you’ll be able to:

  • integrate climate action into your language teaching practice

  • design lessons and activities that develop learners’ language skills alongside climate awareness and action

  • support climate learning and action beyond the classroom through projects and real-world engagement.

What does the course include?

  • Self-study modules that you can access at any time before the course closes
  • A certificate of achievement on successful completion of the self-study modules
  • A free workbook with extra learning content and resources connected to the course contents
  • A dedicated Facebook community of course participants with up-to-date insight, resources and innovative teaching ideas for you to try out (Facebook account required)
  • Learning content related to our courses on Facebook and YouTube
  • Live events and recordings with course tutors and language teaching experts on Facebook and YouTube

What are the self-study modules?

Module 1 – Exploring climate action in your classroom

This module explores why climate action is important in language education and how it can be included in your teaching. You’ll look at common challenges teachers face and consider practical ways to address them in your own context.

Module 2 – Teaching climate action

This module explores how to include climate-related topics in language teaching. You’ll look at how to choose meaningful themes, use suitable resources, and design classroom activities that help learners develop language, think critically and communicate ideas about environmental issues.

Module 3 – Taking education for climate action outside class

This module explores ways of extending climate action beyond the classroom. You’ll look at different approaches to climate learning and action, plan activities that suit your teaching context, and create an action plan to support continued climate education in your practice.

Course reviews

What have other teachers said about how Climate action in language education helped them?

"I’ve started to include discussions about environmental issues in almost all of my language lessons because I’ve learned how to do this. My students are very interested and take part in the discussions and activities although they are young (7-11 years old)."

Course participant, North Macedonia (Republic of)

"My students and I went tree planting. We [collaborated with local organisations] for tree planting at our school. It was a fun outdoor event. We planted 300 wood trees and 300 fruit trees. Every student who planted a tree had the tree mapped to their name. It was interesting. This even gave them more enthusiasm to grow the trees. We wrote poems, essays, and students gave speeches. I really met the language goals."

Course participant, Uganda

"The course was full of new and informative ideas that widened my thoughts and opened my thoughts to a new strategies i can apply at my classroom since the climate crisis is a main part of their educational process"

Course participant, Jordan
