In this webinar, Cheryl and Kath share their experience of writing a combined total of over 200 published ELT stories for primary learners. They explore the ever-increasing demands placed on course book stories, compare their approaches to developing a story from the outset, and provide practical tips for creating concepts with staying power, avoiding pitfalls, and breathing life into tired themes. 

About the speakers

Cheryl Palin is an experienced and published freelance author of ELT materials for Primary, Secondary and Pre-primary Young Learners, specializing in all levels of Primary.

She has authored and co-authored bestselling Primary ELT courses for Spain and International markets, including Explorers, Ace! and Oxford Rooftops (with the pen name Suzanne Torres), and most recently Big Questions, Big Bright Ideas and Bright Ideas.

With more than 25 years of experience in the field of English Language Teaching, she has also been a teacher and teacher trainer in the UK, Germany, Spain and Ecuador; a Young Learner Coordinator for the British Council, Quito; an advisor and consultant to the Ecuadorian Ministry of Education and Culture; and a senior editor and in-house writer at Oxford University Press.

Katherine Bilsborough has worked in ELT since 1986 as a teacher, teacher trainer and author. She has published coursebooks and materials for all ages and contexts. Her primary materials include Dream Box, Ace! Oxford Rooftops and a new online course for BBC English. She develops print and digital materials for the British Council and the BBC and regularly contributes to the Learnenglish and TeachingEnglish websites. Katherine is Joint Events co-ordinator for IATEFL's MaWSIG (Materials Writing special interest group)
