Teaching speaking - Unit 8: Feedback

Unit 8 looks at different techniques that can be used to give teacher-led and student-led feedback following a speaking activity.

In the video you will see and hear a range of ideas and John Kay gives advice on preparing for feedback. This unit contains the following elements:

  • A short video providing input.
  • A downloadable series of reflection tasks and activities.
  • If you are a teacher trainer and are planning to use the material in a face-to-face context, there is a set of trainer notes for each topic.

The downloadable material asks you or your trainees to think about different ways of giving feedback. You will also reflect on how you prepare to give feedback and how effective your feedback is for students.

The videos in this series express the view that “English language teaching has the same challenges the world over”, but that the solutions to these problems depend very much on the local context, and for this reason the approach taken focuses on tasks that enable the participants to relate the video to their own specific practice and experience.

I found interesting the activities- the fashion show (as a total physical response), the live performance of the functions and the new vocabulary, and the side labeling groups, all for getting feedback from the students. I consider them as useful tips for my future activity, of course. Thank you so much for that!

It is nice to have feedback but I want suggest one more thing that is we can arrange a forum for students so they can share their doubts with each others. One forum that I actually visited and on that forum some student ask doubts to their friends if anyone don't have answer the students are ask their teachers. I would like to say we should add one teacher for forum related to that topic. You can see one forum example where I was read it you should visit it http://forummantra.org/ If you think this is good Idea. Then please use it.
