Sue Kay and Karen Spiller: How to become an ELT materials writer
Date: Wednesday 5th March 2014
Q: Why do publishers always use the same writers?
A: Because the publishers don't know where to find new writers - and when they do find them, they haven't got time to train them.
Let us tell you about our training modules in materials-writing skills, and their relevance to creating materials for your own classes, self publishing and teacher training. We'll also share some useful tips and show you how to create a profile for free inclusion in our writers' database accessed by international publishers.
About the speakers:
Sue Kay started her English Language teaching career in France in 1983. She is the author of the Resource Packs to go alongside Simon Greenall's best-selling course, Reward. She has been involved in various writing projects, mainly the Inside Out and New Inside Out series which she co-wrote with Vaughan Jones. She is now working on ELT Teacher 2 Writer with Karen Spiller and Karen White.
Karen Spiller started teaching English in Spain in the mid 80s. She then worked for various publishers, such as OUP, Heinemann and Macmillan and was involved in opening up new markets for Hachette Livre's educational and children's publishing. She returned to Oxford in 2003 and became a freelance project manager. These days she helps publishers find new authors, develops writing briefs and manages the materials from great ideas to published books. She loves working on ELT Teacher 2 Writer with Sue Kay and Karen White.
