Stepping Beyond Teaching: Exploring Writing as a Career

Watch a recording of this webinar with George Chilton, looking at going beyond teaching into a career in materials writing

About the webinar

Sometimes it can be hard to see beyond the classroom walls. But there are exciting opportunities to explore and a number of ways to diversify your TEFL career.

Many teachers go on to become bloggers, editors, coursebook writers and publishers. Some simply do so to supplement their income, others find a new full-time occupation.

The question is, is writing the pathway for you? In this webinar, George Chilton, former ESL teacher, SLB member and Creative Director at Hubbub Labs talks about making the career shift from teaching to writing. He goes into how to grow your experience, test the waters and blaze a trail that both excites and challenges you.

Top takeaways:

We’ll explore your first steps, how to develop your skills, the types of work available (from materials design to professional blogging), and finding the right work for you.

I was hoping to join this webinar live, but 4 AM on a workday just wasn't going to happen for me! I'm currently wrapping up one phase of my career and embarking on another, and writing is something I've had in mind for quite a while. It would be nice to have something to show for 30 years of teaching ESL!

I was really hoping to participate in the live webinar, but unfortunately getting up at 4:00 AM just wasn't realistic. I am making a bit of a career shift right now, and writing is something I've been considering for quite some time. Will there be more webinars on this topic in the future?

Hi,

You can see the webinar recording at the top of this page, hope it's useful, and good luck with making a career change!
