Watch a recording of an online discussion about the role of experience in teachers' professional development, July 2020.

This Panel Discussion is being held by the Society of Pakistan English Language Teachers (SPELT) to celebrate their 36th anniversary. The topic is inspired by the British Council book 'Developing Expertise through Experience' edited by Alan Maley. The book comprises narrative accounts of personal and professional development of 20 teachers, researchers, authors, and teacher educators from around the world; the aim is to 'explore the ways in which teachers develop professionally and personally by building a personal theory of teaching action based upon their own accumulated experiences - and reflections on them'.

The six panelists are 3 book chapter contributors and 3 teacher educators from Pakistan:

  • Alan Maley, UK
  • John Fanselow, USA/Japan
  • Andrew Wright, UK
  • Abbas Hussain, Pakistan
  • Sajida Zaki, Pakistan
  • Fauzia Shamim, Pakistan
