About this seminar

In this seminar, Gavin Dudeney gives a short history of the use of technology in education, followed by how the use of mobile devices, such as smart phones and tablets, can be used for English language learning.

This seminar provides English language teachers with a range of practical teaching and learning ideas on the use of digital devices, which can be easily implemented across a variety of levels and contexts.

Gavin explores the issue of whether the use of phones in class is a good idea, or a bad idea. He examines the shift that takes place when learners are encouraged to keep their mobile devices switched on in class. He then shares a basic theoretical rationale for their regular implementation, considering both the pros and cons of such an initiative. He shares recent methodology research on the subject and then draws on his own personal consulting experience related to the implementation of a class set of iPads in a language school context in the UK.

This seminar has been recorded and divided into five separate videos. You can watch the entire playlist, or select specific videos from the list below:

  1. Personal landmarks in technology
  2. Texting, the current market, the rise of the tablet, your mobile life
  3. Mobile devices and using them in class
  4. mLearning in action - high and low resource projects
  5. mLearning implementation

Who is this seminar for?

Regardless of experience, this seminar will appeal to all teachers who are new to mobile technology for educational purposes but are interested in learning more about it; with practical ideas for the classroom.
