Managing: How to manage the correction of writing in large classes

Working in low-resource contexts in classrooms of 200+ students, two teachers share other teachers’ ideas about how to manage the correction of student writing.

In this video, Fehmina Qaiser from Pakistan and Mohammed Rejaul Karim from Bangladesh address the heavy marking load that teachers with very large classes have to deal with.

Whole-class checking using the board – a technique that many teachers are familiar with – is one way to deal with simple activities, but more complex writing tasks are not as easy to correct and demand much more of a teacher’s time. How is it possible to correct such a huge volume of scripts? They suggest that by managing classroom time, involving students in the process, deciding what’s important, and even not correcting every single script, there is a way to lighten the load and save the busy teacher’s time.
