In this lesson students take part in a visualisation activity before reading, listening to and discussing passages from Dickens' work. This lesson is also designed to be used by teacher trainers to focus on teaching receptive skills.

Level: B2+

Age group: Older teens/adults

Timing: 60 minutes (as a lesson)/ 90 minutes (as a teacher training session)

Aims:

  • To encourage students to relate reading and listening passages to their own experience, as a way of developing critical skills.
  • To develop skills of listening and reading for gist, and reading for detail.
  • (If used for teacher training) To focus trainees on the benefits of a communicative methodology.
  • (If used for teacher training) To revise staging of receptive skills lessons.
