ELT Research across fracture lines: Themes and methods for difficult times and under travel constraints

Watch a recording of this ELTRA webinar on 17 June 2020, looking at conducting research into English language teaching in challenging contexts.

About the webinar

Drawing on the insights of contributors to the British Council’s edited volume on English across the fracture lines, this webinar will focus on possible themes and methods for researching (English) language use and (English) language education in times of restricted travel and insecurity due to political, environmental and/or health emergencies. It will explore various methodological alternatives and ethical guidelines for conducting research in such contexts. The webinar will highlight in particular the potential of such research to mediate people’s hardship, to create hope in situations of deprivation and despair, and to promote moments of connection and kindness in a world so in need of tolerance and empathy.

This is the third in a series of twelve webinars by winners of the British Council's English Language Teaching Research Awards (ELTRAs). See recordings of other webinars in the ELTRA series below:

Elizabeth J. Erling and Maria Grazia Imperiale are both excellent academics.  Their experience has the international exposure with special reference to Asian countries including Arabia and India. They have enumerated some specific difficulties of the English learners with solutions which is quite praiseworthy. I must thank the British Council for providing opportunity of participation in the recorded webinars.
