| Work experience |
: | Like many, I fell into teaching after graduating but the stop-gap activity I thought it would be turned out to become something much more. I worked in a very busy school in Central London before moving to Italy where I still live and work in the school I set up 20 years ago. I have worked with thousands of students over the years and still tend to notice a lot of things in common despite all the differences in age, nationality, background, personality and language needs. |

: | As a teacher you need to be different things to different people in terms of recognising expectations, sharing priorities and creating the right rapport and sense of collaboration in class but the bottom line is that you need to get down to the business at hand. It's important not to lose sight of the fact that what you are doing will ultimately be judged by the lasting results you have managed to produce. With this in mind I set out to develop a teaching programme - a combination of aims, methodology, classroom strategies, procedures and 'styles' together with written course material - that would 'fit' the majority of people who came to learn and would enable teachers to strike the right balance between 'serious work' and 'enjoyment' in lessons. This project carries on: the school has grown (now we have two) and the resulting teaching programme is now being used in other schools in other countries and interest is growing. |
