People in computing

This unit is taken from the new edition of Oxford English for Information Technology; a course for students of information technology and computing, or for people already working in the IT sector.

  • Intermediate to Advanced
  • British and American English

The unit contains problem-solving activities, which allows the learner to develop their reading, speaking, and writing skills, through various activities such as creating a c.v. It also:

  • discusses the job roles for a number of IT professionals;
  • gives tips on how to become a programming expert, Computer Consultant, and IT Manager;
  • provides examples of how to describe the requirements of various jobs.

By studying this unit, students should understand and be able to use structures used for requirements:

Great activity and great lesson. As an extension activity, I had students role play a job interview situation. It worked very well. I also plan to have them next time in groups write out job announcements as if in the papers using the target grammar structures. Rania
