Solid dictionary skills are a crucial element of successful English-language learning. Each month Macmillan offer full teaching notes and photocopiable worksheets on key elements of the MED, ranging from simple tasks like using Guide Words, to more detailed discussion about metaphor, idiom and modern phrases.
Certain topics always present difficulties for learners of English - things like register, word patterns and prepositions. This worksheet completes a two-part look at the ‘Get it right' boxes in MED which help students anticipate and correct mistakes in these and other areas. In the lesson, you will look at problems associated with register, countability / uncountability, and frequently confused words, asking students to consider sample sentences, identify the mistakes and correct them.
