Using small cut-up pictures to practise vocabulary on the OHP

This activity can be used with any level depending on the vocabulary being practised, and aims to recycle or revise vocabulary in one chosen vocabulary field or can also be used to elicit or pre-check vocabulary before leading into a main activity.

Preparation
Find some small pictures of your chosen vocabulary field and photocopy them onto an OHT. Cut them up separately and keep them in an envelope

Procedure

  • Throw the pictures onto the OHP mixed up on top of each other, turn on the machine and ask your students what they can see.
  • As they call out an item, pull it to one side so that everyone can see what it is and repeat this until all items have been identified.

You can follow this up with your main activity, or a with a worksheet or write the items on the whiteboard etc.
