English for Academic Purposes - Professional Associations & SIGs

BALEAP (British Association of Lecturers in English for Academic Purposes) is a professional organisation whose members are providers of English for academic purposes in higher education institutions. Its aims are to:

      • enhance the quality of English language provision for international students in institutions of higher education
      • support professional development of the staff
      • provide an accreditation scheme for EAP courses
      • promote and disseminate EAP associated research through biennial conferences and one-day Professional Issues Meetings (PIMs).

The IATEFL ESP Special Interest Group focuses on English for Specific Purposes, English for Academic Purposes and English for Occupational/Professional Purposes. The main aim of the SIG is to disseminate good practice in ESP, including EAP, and to promote models of excellence in ESP to ELT professionals throughout the world. The SIG seeks to achieve its objectives through workshops, seminars and conferences and through publishing its own newsletter/journal.
