      Learning Technologies for the Classroom

      TeachingEnglish - Learning Technologies for the Classroom trains teachers of English to use the latest technologies with their learners, available in face-to-face and online format.

      Face-to-face
      TeachingEnglish – Learning Technologies for the Classroom is an eight-module course for teachers of English in state and private schools. The course covers the following areas:

      1. An introduction to learning technologies
      2. Evaluating and selecting websites
      3. Integrating the web
      4. Office applications for whole-class teaching
      5. Using office applications in a computer room
      6. Searching for resources on the web
      7. Ideas for school links projects
      8. Safe searching

      Each module lasts between 90 and 120 mins with the exception of Safe searching, which is a shorter session intended as an add-on to any other internet-based session.

      A Trainer Guide is also provided to give trainers advice on how to prepare for course delivery and use course materials effectively.

      Online
      Teaching English – Learning Technologies for the Classroom online is an ten-module course for teachers of English in state and private schools. The course covers the following areas:

      1. Getting started – an introductory unit on how to use Moodle
      2. An introduction to learning technologies
      3. Evaluating and selecting websites
      4. Integrating the web
      5. Searching for resources on the web
      6. Copyright-friendly resources
      7. Safe searching
      8. Office applications for whole-class teaching
      9. Using office applications in a computer room
      10. Using learning technologies for school links projects.

      The course is delivered using Moodle (a web–based environment for delivering course content and managing students) and is intended for self-access use. However, the course can also be run as a moderated course with an online tutor.

      Each unit of the online course consists of:

      • articles, videos and presentations on the uses of learning technologies
      • teaching ideas, lesson plans, ‘how to’ tutorials
      • forums and wikis for participants to collaborate in
      • exercises to test and extend knowledge
      • links to further resources
      • opportunities for reflection and learning through practice.

      Each unit is complete in itself and units may be accessed in any order from the course home page.
