Reflective practice 1
Submitted by chrisbaldwin on 20 June, 2011 - 00:00
Reflective practice is the process of thinking about, evaluating, analysing and reviewing what takes place in the classroom.
- Its goal is to improve and transform our teaching.
- It involves asking questions about teaching practices, exchanging experiences with colleagues, finding out about and trying different approaches and new ideas.
This workshop provides the tools for developing reflective skills.
The materials are suitable for teachers with a minimum B1 level, working in any educational context – primary, secondary, tertiary, adults. This is the first of two workshops.
Learning outcomes
By the end of this workshop you will be able to:
- Relate the reflective cycle to classroom teaching
- Use the reflective cycle to describe, evaluate and analyse aspects of your teaching practice
- Select reflective tools appropriately to explore and improve your teaching
- Reflect on learning from the workshop

Thank you very much for these great resources on ‘reflective practice’ in the classroom. Have been discussing these materials with a colleague today, and how very useful they are for us teachers as we reflect upon our teaching and learning process. Many thanks.
this is a very useful course. Thank you very much...
Thank you! This is useful to me not only as a trainer but also as a teacher!
Thank you very much for giving me a new idea about `Reflctive practice'.This will help me a lot in my classroom.
thank you for your effort
Thanks! I feel the time was worth it. A few things I already do regularly and others I can't do at my current school because we haven't got coverage to observe each other but I plan to record a few classes with a voice recorder which should help me to understand how I explain instructions etc.
Also I plan to create/use the reflective lesson plan and self-evaluation check list.
Thank you so much for helping teachers develop when and where they can by making this available online and for free.
thanks very much for such useful efforts. My only request is that such work shops should be downnloadable to enlarge the benefit.
Before looking at the list of reflective tools, my own list would have been limited to peer observation, learner feedback, a reflective diary and reading. Indeed, these were the only reflective tools that I've ever used in the classroom. I'm looking forward to trying out some other methods listed in this workshop, such as the reflective lesson plan and self-evaluation checklist. Thankyou for a really useful workshop.
Thank you for the knowledge regarding 'Reflecive Practice'. It is really useful for me in my research as well as in classroom teaching.

Hy, This basic information about reflective Teaching helped me a lot. my doctoral research topic is on reflective teaching. it titled as " A study of pre-services English Teachers reflectivity enhanced through a series of action researches on their classroom performance" could you please share some of the books title and research work done in this area?
Thank you
Thanks too much for your efforts
Dear Anil
The books used for research when writing this workshop are all listed on page 33. They are more practical than academic, but might be useful to you.
You might also find something useful in this database of research:
Directory of UK ELT Research 2005-10
http://www.teachingenglish.org.uk/transform/directory-uk-elt-research/ac...
There are, of course, many online journals that you can find by searching on the internet. Using google scholar is often a good place to start: http://scholar.google.com/
I hope that helps.
Chris
I'd like to thank for these great ideas you've shown in this research. They give a broad image on how to apply this refective method in my classes. The questions in each stage help to internalise easily. I'd definitely use them.
Reflective tools are very much useful. Thank you so much
Thank you for this very useful workshop. Reflecting about what we do is essential to improve continually.
We should do everything in our power to improve our performance in class and this is undoubtedly an invaluable tool. Thanks!
Really good for refective teaching
not too much practical... it's what we think and a teacher who is sharp he does not need it. it's an automatic process.
Thank you for this interesting workshop. It would be of great benefit to teachers especially those who have just started their career or those young teachers who would like to develop their teaching skills. This reflective system really helps a lot in deepening one's experience and developing one's skills. It helps you to see where you are and what should be done to improve your work and skills and thus help your students become better and better !!
all the materials are very useful to us
