What are the English language needs and priorities of young adults in Europe? What kinds of English do 18-24 year olds want to speak, and why? Has the development of new technologies and online communication affected the ways in which young adults use English, and if so, how? Has the emergence of English as an international Lingua Franca affected people's sense of their own identity? And what might this mean for English language teaching and learning?


New Special Educational Needs (SEN) network in the YLTSIG for IATEFL

A new network within the IATEFL YLTSIG is about to be set up. It is intended to draw together teachers, heads and coordinators from around the world who are interested in sharing ideas and resources to better the English language provision for students with any kind of specific learning needs.

The British Council has convened an invitation-only policy workshop to draft a new strategy for CLIL in Europe, to take place on 10-12 March 2014 by Lake Como. With support from ministries of education and sector specialists throughout Europe, the key objective of the gathering is to draft a set of recommendations for the European Commission.


British Council teacher survey for English language teachers in the Middle East and North Africa

The British Council invites English language teachers from the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) to participate in a survey which aims to better understand the digital behaviour of English language teachers in MENA. The survey will be conducted in the week of 16th March and there will be one week to complete it.

The English language needs of young adults in Europe - online survey

Northumbria University and King's College London in conjunction with the British Council, are surveying student and teacher perceptions of the English language needs of young adults in Europe, and the implications of this for English language teaching. If you are based in Europe, you can help by completing a short questionnaire which should take approximately twenty minutes.

British Council India - Master trainer teaching tips posters

Download a series of six Top Tips posters designed by Master Trainers based in India. As part of a three-year project between British Council India and Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA) Punjab to develop the English language teaching skills and language confidence of secondary level English language teachers in government schools across the state of Punjab, 200 Master Trainers were invited to take part in a competition to design a poster under one of three specific themes.
