New IATEFL Research SIG publication: Teacher-researchers in action

A new book all about teacher research has just been published by the IATEFL Research SIG. The book contains chapters written by teacher-researchers working at universities across Turkey and aims to share research relating to classroom practice with the wider ELT community.

Now in their thirteenth year, the awards which are run by the British Council and sponsored by Cambridge English Language Assessment, are the only international awards to recognise innovative products, services and research in English language teaching globally.

James E. Alatis Prize - New opportunity from The International Research Foundation for English Language Education (TIRF)

At their recent Board meeting, the TIRF Trustees established the James E. Alatis Prize for Research on Language Policy and Planning in Educational Contexts, as a way of honouring Jim Alatis, who was one of the founders of TIRF and had a life-long interest in language planning and policy.

Free training videos on elt-training

Elt-training is a web site that aims to provide training support for trainee and novice English language teachers as well as more experienced teachers, too. There are short video films about wide-ranging topics. For example recent films have been about ‘Setting up activities’, ‘Using authentic materials’ and ‘Grammar teaching’. A new video is published every month.

Creating a climate for innovation in language learning - webcast recording

Watch a workshop to explore what we might do to promote new ideas in language learning. Teachers and leaders were invited to join an international event on how to innovate in their contexts, looking at six UK and international case studies from across different fields: immersive learning, learner autonomy, technology and gaming.

British Council teacher survey for English language teachers in the Middle East and North Africa

The British Council invites English language teachers from the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) to participate in a survey which aims to better understand the digital behaviour of English language teachers in MENA. The survey will be conducted in the week of 16th March and there will be one week to complete it.

CLIL policy and practice: an invitation-only policy workshop to draft a new strategy for CLIL in Europe

The British Council has convened an invitation-only policy workshop to draft a new strategy for CLIL in Europe, to take place on 10-12 March 2014 by Lake Como. With support from ministries of education and sector specialists throughout Europe, the key objective of the gathering is to draft a set of recommendations for the European Commission.
