Dickens event live on TeachingEnglish
Submitted by Rob Lewis on 7 February, 2012 - 11:11
Today is the 200th anniversary of the birth of Charles Dickens. You've probably noticed that we've been celebrating this landmark with a series of materials (and now a blog too) on TeachingEnglish.
On Thursday 9 February, you will also be able to watch our special British Council event, Bent and broken into a better shape: the magical storytelling of Charles Dickens, with Jeremy Harmer and Steve Bingham. They will bring Dickens' writing to life through readings and music, in a show designed especially (but not exclusively) for teachers and students of international English.
You can follow the event live at www.teachingenglish.org.uk/dickens from 1845 UK time on Thursday.

Fallen MarvelsPoem in Response to Wordle 14~The Sunday Whirl by Brenda WWhat Greater Expectations thanGreat Expectations,
Miss Havisham, embedded secluded, on dustywooden gilded throne, behind cobwebbed curtains,Majestic Marvel, First Created,
Sacred, now rests transfixed
in false reprehensions,
As scattered clouds scan
and search terrestial to
celestial dimensions blinking intermittant flashes
Only to find twisted tormentsblood filled swamps, whirring swarms of discontentsamidst seas of colorfully placed flowers,
Supreme Sopranos burnt to ashes.
