We are always trying to do our best for our pupils so I'm very thankful with you for giving us the opportunity learn and share experiences. Nevertheless, dealing with disruptive students is one of the worst problems nowadays in my country, I'd like you to consider it besides the ones on the list

Orlanda Marina, Portugal
All mentioned themes are very interested but I teach young learners. I would like to get more information about discipline in the classroom. The biggest difficulty is how to get a class controlled when using an active methodology. Children tend to get overexcited and as a teacher I must use all sorts of strategies, but I don't know where to get more....

All the topics in the list are really challenging for an English teacher who wishes to stay tuned to the contemporary trends in his/her profession. The topic I voted for is Teacher Training and Education, as I feel this is an almost unexplored area in my country. It is true that effort has been made in order to make headway in English teaching methodology, modern materials have been created by joint teams from abroad and from Romania and they have been used at country level. The official support throughout this process of modernizing education has been quite remarkable. However, this effort has not been conducive to a general change in the approach to the teaching and learning of English at country level, as teacher training and teacher education have not been given the amount of attention they would deserve. It may sound like a criticism, but in fact the need for the change has been so huge that too many things had to be done over a relatively short period of time. We frequently speak about ‘learner autonomy', which includes the skills a school can support students to develop in order to give them the possibility to continue to learn individually, after the end of the language course they are taking in school. I tend to consider that we should take some action in order not only to develop the ways and means of carrying out teacher training and education, but actually to identify those patterns of action that should help teachers to become ‘autonomous teachers' in that they should be trained, from the faculty years and at the beginning of their didactic activity, in order to develop the skills that could get them the possibility to adopt an attitude of permanent interest in their professional development. I would call this area ‘developing teacher autonomy', which could include forms of mentoring in school and colleges, publishing the core materials in the field, organization of workshops in all county capitals all over the country and, certainly not least, changing the mentality of those who decide in matters of curriculum at national level. They should include a course of the ‘professional development' type, which should be compulsory in language department of universities.

Teaching English to students of technical universities with a variety of specializations is a great challenge. How to satisfy your students` needs and provide them with the topics that are not only general English or business English but also elements of coal mining, oil drilling processes or materials engineering. There are no course books like that and students, especially those with a relatively good command of the language, would like us to prepare them to their professional careers.

Nwafor Veronica, Nigeria
In the 21st century teaching approach, emphasis has shifted from teacher-centred approach to student-centred approach cum collaboration. It therefore becomes imperative that teachers should acquire those skills that will enable them to involve the learners in the teaching and learning activities thereby making them autonomous and independent.

Gita Kharicha, UK
Teaching ESOL at beginner level is quite challenging as some of them are qualified from their country and to start at low level is quite challenging for them as well. Something on small talk understanding local people would be useful.

Monorien Christopher
I think it is absolutely necessary to focus on English for academic purpose since the purpose of teaching is to achieve academic objectives. Most people who are interested in English do so because they need to pass examination. Any effort geared towards achieving this end will be greatly appreciated

Jameel Juwairy, Yemen
I am a teacher of English in Vocational and Technical Institutes in Yemen and I am also concerned with preparing Technical English Textbooks for Technical and Vocational students. So, I am looking for supplementary materials to help me do my job successfully well.

Gloria, Germany
Another topic which was not mentioned in your list is how to deal with conflict in a classroom where half or more of the students are of migration background. This situation is happening on a regular basis now and we teachers are not always prepared nor have we been taught exactly how to handle conflict, name-calling, rough or rowdy behaviour, anger and aggression in the classroom. In one of the colleges where I teach we recently had training on what to do if a student runs amok. The times they are a changin!

Steve Nahila, Barisal, Bangladesh
I think learning English is the most important language in this world. So according to me, teaching development is the most effective work in today's era. So I believe that the English language will be shared by the training department throughout the whole world and show us the prove again for globalisation.

Diana Krasteva, Bulgaria
It would be a perfect idea to have a teacher education forum via the web page. It is can be worth having the opportunity to find more information on qualification topics and teacher education.

Siddhartha, Nepal
Teacher Development is a key fact that lead the worthwhile teaching and learning atmosphere. We believe only in our knowledge that we can impart and wish to be a teacher but in fact the reason for manipulating different heads and ideas inside a classroom or elsewhere becomes more challenging. So, I believe that the issue of teacher development should be considered seriously for quality education via different training and resources.

Obashun Tope, Nigeria
Teacher education herein refers to orientation and special special seminar progs. It will be ideal if special programmes for curriculum and framework development is organized on-line for teachers.

Angela Keane, China
Any advice on teaching advanced English to adult students who read well, but make many mistakes in their written and spoken English, would be greatly
appreciated.

Hadi, Iran
I think technology makes teaching more easier task for teachers and more interesting for learners. Tech breathes new breath to old fashioned atmosphere of classes.

Rozina Jumani, Pakistan
I think, there are couple of themes I will be interested based on my interaction with undergraduates. We have been focusing nowadays on English for academic purpose as universities are offering credit courses for this, more over I will be interested in partaking research on global issue. In this regard, I would suggest that active participants on this forum can pursue collaborative research related to pertinent themes and collate all the findings to reach to any desirable solutions. But it would require governance support along with volunteers who will contribute to this. I anticipate many genuine researchers/ language teachers in this.

Mary, Ireland
It's challenging at times, but there's a certain freedom to teaching children and they pick things up very quickly. What I find most difficult is that a lot can neither read nor write, and thus lesson planning is everything, unless you want to spend all day colouring pictures! But the rewards are great. They're fun, funny and lovable and you'll see and hear their development right in front of your eyes!

Claire Venables, Spain
Initial TEFL certificates don't prepare teachers for the YL classroom and newly qualified teachers tend to be thrown into the deep end. Help with classroom management problems will always be welcome.

Louise, Algeria
There is currently a plethora of information on the web for many English language topics, but one which is lacking and which my students and I would find invaluable is that of Medicine

Sevim Abaz ,Macedonia
I think the most important think about learning foreign language is to communicate with teacher colleagues all over the world, sharing experiences. As for the the topics, all of them are important, especially Teacher Development and T.Training Education.

Abdul Rahman, Indonesia
Today is global technology era so we need regular information about technologies.

Helen Gamsa, UK
Ideas and discussions around teaching ESOL would be most welcome. Though  there is much overlap with EFL in terms of language taught, the context is different for predominantly refugee and migrant worker communities. (e.g. a class containing both PhD graduates and people with virtually no formal education in their pasts .... )Our students' lack of resources and opportunities in their 'new' country is then mirrored by their teachers' relative lack of appropriate materials or money to buy them with! So websites like this one could offer us a lot.

Partha Sarathi Banik , India
In India English has assumed both economic and political dimensions. The language is very much in demand as a subject of study. Parents are willing to spend money on their children's learning of English, but many educationalists are busy developing syllabus without keeping the Indian reality in mind and many teachers, too, are least bothered about the right methods and their application in the classroom. So teacher development for the teaching of 'English language' is essential.

Uma Viswanath, India
I feel if the Young Ones are tutored and guided with numerous activities in a fun way they would tend to grow in a more methodic and disciplined way which would help in bringing up efficient citizens for the future world. Young ones are presently left to their own decision and thoughts where they tend to go astray and involve themselves into a lot of activities. It is only at this age they can be molded and streamlined to a right path, as they are flexible and tender and they will be able to absorb a lot. It's not only that Young ones are also in need of good relations where they need to interact and discuss on all matters. Parents are not able to give all that the Young Ones are looking for. I sincerely feel that they are the roots for a future generation if they can be tuned well at the right age then they would bring in perfection in all fields.

Nidhi, India
It is difficult to find a website that talks about teacher development and empowerment. Generally by creating lesson plans and resource material people think that they are talking about teacher development, but in reality no one website keeps the teacher in mind. In this I think you should talk about English literature and should have some interesting reading materials, social and psychological aspects of development. you should also cater to he problems that the teacher faces in the class while teaching and what is it that she requires for teaching English in her class.

Adriana García, México
We teachers are always looking for better ways to reach our goals, not only by learning what has already been proved, but by exploring what is in the future.

Sandro, Italy
As I see it English for Special Purposes, should answer any question that does not find solution through ordinary channel.

Germany
More and more students are studying media and journalism. We desperately need specialist language / insights in this field.

Maria Gucel, Turkey
Having received Teaching English online for many years now, I can only say "keep up the good work". Your site is a valuable resource for teachers of English, each of us trying to find different ways and methods to teach our students. Thanks again Maria

Agnes Yong, Singapore
Knowing where they are at by means of testing, evaluation and assessment will motivate students of EL to learn and to set targets for achievement. As they discover their strengths and weaknesses, an understanding of the learning process will enable them to improve.

Prabha Muthukrishnan , Bangalore, India
Honestly I find all the themes mentioned quite interesting. But, since I am an English Language teacher, I would be interested in ELT management and Business English. Please do include lots of activities. Students simply enjoy these and also learn much.

Georgeta Stoenescu, Romania
A teacher never stops being a student. The more he / she trains the better results his / her students get.

Abdul Khadar, India
I think learning technologies should be given a little more focus so as to enable budding teachers as well as those who have been on the crease enjoy more confidence and relaxation.

Karsane , Morocco
Lit, media & cultural studies are a must in a fast-changing and shrinking world. People are to develop a bias-free world universal culture and an on-going ecological sustainable program to safeguard our planet. Today's technological feats and media can make that true.

Asif Chowdhury, Bangladesh
As far as I reckon, only global issues can amalgamate us where all of us will be able to participate with their own opinions as well as experiences; rather than any other arenas. At this moment, we need to be united. I think, this can be one of the effective ways to create a bond among us for better future!
