Teachers associations need to be more dynamic. As well as discussing methodologies they should be addressing the needs and conditions of EFL teachers and seeking to change them instead of being on a cosy conference circuit.

In theory, teachers associations are meant to be open, democratic and non-lucrative organizations, but in fact, many of them, as they get reputation, become close circles to commercialize knowledge and experience in very different and separated circuits. Non-experienced teacher spend great amounts of money in listening to the experienced ones. But those who become popular speakers end up delivering conferences for free!!! In the end, both circuits pay for exchanging experience. It does not seem to be a fare agreement, does it?

It would be a pleasure to be a member of this association, it's a way for changing experiences, methodology and technology. I definetly agree with the teachers association existance.

Unfortunately I am not a member of any teachers' associaton and would definitely like to be one, hence the regret. I think that being a member of one would actually help not only in terms of psychological reassurance but also providing an informal forum in which I could be able to seek help as and when it is possible.

I want to share all problems and experiences in teaching English. I always want to improve my knowledge of teaching and I hope to learn much from Teaching Association.

I haven't joined any teachers association. I would like to join a teachers association, indeed I hope that it can be very helpful for fellow teachers to share and discuss about the update of teaching world together.

I am postive, teacher association plays a crucial role in not only getting the ideas shared but also broadening the outlook of many a gifted teacher. Honestly, I am looking forward to joining. Learning is an on-going process. The more we spread our wings into the realms of think-tank, the better equipped we are when we step into the classroom.

I think teachers' associations are extremely important, helpful, and plenty practical. Unfortunately, what they are not is convenient and /or conveniently located. For example, I had hoped to join IATEFL to receive magazines, online articles, notification of upcoming events in my region, etc... etc...
But I know that the local post aren't good at English and I don't want to take the chance that I waste the money just to have my magazines filed in a dark storeroom in the back of a suburban Beijing post office.

Well I think it's a bit time consuming to get in touch with any association and when it is practically not that helpful.

Currently, I am not a member of any associaton. Why? Due to the fact that teachers don't want to share experiences, give tips and enjoy meeting with colleagues who may enrich their professional horizon. It's really a pity. One of the reasons to communicate with you, is based on the fact that there is lack of communication and exchange of ideas. I decided this way so as to broaden my mind and can offer my students a better training. When we learn a language, we can't teach and learn it in isolation. We have at least to have a slight idea how the nativespeakers live, feel. Language is one of the most important and relevant aspects of Culture so jump to your own conclusions.

I am not a member of a teacher association, but I think teachers can help one another and can exchange ideas and teaching strategies. So, it's important for a teacher to be involved in this kind of association.

Teacher association is something which keeps a teacher abreast with latest tools and strategies . Besides, here one finds so much to share with and consequently grow.

It's very important to keep up wtih the changing world.
Chris, Italy
If you want to keep up-to-date with this fast-changing field and also create a more professional environment it's important to be part of an association - but one which counts for something in terms of ongoing development as well as providing support by giving ideas and tips.
