Are you interested in becoming a Guest Teacher for TeachingEnglish?
We are inviting expressions of interest from teachers who would like to be a Guest Teacher for a month. In order to apply you must meet the following selection criteria and complete a very short written task (200 word limit).
Selection criteria
Applicants should ideally:
- have at least 5 years' experience as an EL teacher (any sector, any level, any country)
- be able to raise issues for discussion that have wide appeal
- be active on the TeachingEnglish site (e.g. running their own blog, adding comments to articles, etc.)
- be familiar with, and accept, TeachingEnglish House Rules
- have good written English and be able to write in a non-academic, simple, clear style that is readily accessible to teachers
- be able to spare up to 4 hours a week over a period of 4-6 weeks
Writing task
Imagine that you have been asked to start an online discussion on Teaching English about an important issue in ELT. In less than 200 words, write an introduction to the issue and invite Teaching English members to comment. For example, you might refer to a teaching issue in your country or region and ask for reactions; or you might describe a challenge you have faced and ask for advice; or you might refer to a particular aspect of classroom practice and ask for comments.
The selection panel will be looking for organised, accessible and informed writing in areas of interest to a global audience. They will also be looking for writing that reflects real experience and a real person - you!
Submitting your application
Use the Guest Teacher application form to submit your writing task in the message box. Please also include a brief paragraph outlining your experience as an EL teacher. When you submit your application you will be returned to the home page. We will send an email to confirm we have received your application.
The TeachingEnglish Team.
