Mission statement
To unite on a voluntary basis school and university teachers of the English language
and culture of Moscow and the Moscow region for:
- Elevating the prestige of the English language teacher profession;
- Creating a favourable environment for both professional development and communication;
- Achieving an effective methodological and linguistic link between school and university teachers;
- Defending teachers’ rights;
- Rendering support for young teachers.

Main activities: teacher training seminars, cooperation with the British Council, American Centre, Conferences, Festivals (Public Speaking, Storytelling, Poetry Recitation, Song and Drama), Projects and publication of end products in the n/p English

MELTA – MOSCOW ENGLISH LANGUAGE TEACHERS ASSOCIATION came into being on May 28, 2004. The session to set up took place in the morning at the Assembly Hall of the Central House of the Artists in Moscow. On this memorable day out of a humble but progressing ELT club in the newspaper “English” there was born a true, friendly and creative partner of other ELT associations all over Russia and the world. MELTA is a joint chapter of the National Association of Teachers of English (NATE) and we are very much interested in uniting the efforts of the secondary and High school with the aim of perfect the ELT in Moscow.
Our founding fathers are: Fund “Pedagogical University “Pervoye Sentyabrya” with the support of the Moscow Department of Education, the Moscow Region Ministry of Education, the National Association of Teachers of English, the English Language Office of the USA Embassy in Russia, the newspaper “English” and Russian as well as foreign Publishing Houses. Dear English language teachers of Moscow and the region, unite for the action and success! This is OUR association and you can launch any project of your dream. United we rise, divided we fall.
