This lesson is about entrepreneurship and its place in society. It develops speaking and writing skills and the use of context-specific vocabulary and idiomatic language. The students’ own experiences and opinions form the basis of all discussions and written work.

Countryside is Great

This lesson is about the countryside and, in particular, National Parks and UK rural tourist attractions. The lesson practises speaking and listening skills through discussion and an information-gap activity. The main text in the lesson provides practice of the sub-skills of reading for gist and specific detail.

Creativity is Great

This lesson is all about creativity and innovation. Students start with a discussion which leads into a vocabulary task and reading activities. The lesson focuses on using the past simple and present perfect.

English is Great

This lesson is about the English language and other languages (including endangered languages) that the students may know. It develops speaking skills and the use of idiomatic language and uses the students’ own experiences and opinions as the basis of all discussions and written work.

Timing: 60 minutes

Green is Great

This lesson is about sustainability and how the UK is planning to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. The lesson involves checking what vocabulary students already know in this topic area, teaching typical collocations relating to reducing emissions and alternative energy sources. The lesson involves a jigsaw reading task, where students read texts on different energy sources and report on these to each other. Extension activities involve students using an online tool to predict the energy future of the UK (or their own country).

Heritage is Great

This lesson explores some British historical attractions through a jigsaw reading activity that promotes group work. There is an active vocabulary exercise to engage learners and should time allow the extension activities will allow learners to engage their creativity around the topic.
