Your suggestions and references - concept checking questions

      Hi,

I'm doing my thesis related with "concept checking questions" or CCQs..

Specifically it tells about how this technique works better than drilling (in teaching present perfect tense). There are so many teachers in my country who use drilling after they have explained the rules of some tenses, but for me it seems to focus on the pattern only rather than the meaning beyond the structures. So I want to prove that this concept checking technique is more effective than drilling.

Can anyone help with reference books/web pages about that?

Thank you so much for your help.

      Hi Rena,

There is not very much written about CCQ's in teaching English as a foreign language and like other training institutions, we tend to write our own materials and handouts for this purpose.

A few years ago, I wrote a short article on this which you can find if you follow the url below:

      http://www.celt.edu.gr/check_article.htm

It is possible that you will find some more information in some of the newer publications such as Parrot's Grammar for English Language Teachers, Scott Thornburry's About Language and in Geffrey Leech's Meaning and the English Verb

Even older books such Bolitho & Tomlinson's Discover English and Andrew Wright's Investigating English have information that could help teachers design good concept checking questions.

The information is really all over the place I hope this helps.

There is one more newer Grammar book for English Language Teachers, published by CUP, I think, but although I have bought it, I have not had a chance to read it yet!!!!

      I hope this helps.
