      What's in their mind?

      Hi, there,

I'm a teacher in an English class and I'm not a professional yet. But I guess myself I'm more than a man who begins to be an Intermediate student of English field. The hardest thing I face when I teach in front of the class is that the students are afraid of standing on the stage whenever I ask them to. I really don't know how to cultivate them and to make them going through the difficulties with courage. Hope that you will find a way or two and I'll be waiting for your suggestions. Thanks.

HI , I am a student myself and just the thought of standing in front of my colleagues is really terrifying even if i am well prepared for it. I just wanted to say that we hate it when a teacher suddenly asks you to stand up and talk so maybe you could tell them that next time we shall discuss this subject just to give them the chance to prepare for it and I am positive you will find some of them participate ..... definitely being prepared can reduce the stress of the experience :))

I could not agree more . Try to ask your students to talk to you , they will feel more relaxed than speaking in front of the auditorium composed of their colleagues . It will basicly be the same thing , but more relaxing for students in my oppinion

As has been said, the key is preparation.

Let your students plan what they are going to say on thier own, then practice speaking in groups, then finally (if necessary) in front of the class.

hello there, I'm also a teacher, not an english teacher but I know how you feel.. During my first year in service it was really hard to convince students to expressed whatever opinions they have but as I go on with my career I developed my own strategy to motivate them. Just keep your patience and never tell your students that they are wrong since it will only make them less comfortable expressing their thoughts. Good luck to your teaching career! :) I know you are a wonderful teacher.
