What are your opinions about the suggestopedia methodology?
Submitted by gufes on 14 June, 2009 - 20:23
Hi all.
I hope you are all well.
I want to learn your ideas about 'suggestopedia method' in teaching or learning English.Do you agree that is it possible to learn English just in 5 days with this methodology. In my opinion it is increadible and impossible.
As I can understand it is so usefull especially in the sense of its modernity,I mean it is not a classical method,but it is
convenient for small classes. ( for example 6 students)
I have been a teacher for 8 years,and there are many professionals in this site. I ask to myself how can use this methodology?/ in a huge classroom?
Lots of thanks for your views...
Have a nice day :)

Hi Gufes,
I don't really think that any method is likely to teach someone a language in 5 days (after 45 years I'm still learning English) but I guess it depends on what level is being implied, 10 words? 1000 words?
This isn't to say that Suggestopedia has nothing to offer, because I think it does. I once had a group Suggestopedia lesson from a russian woman and I found it fascinating. If you want to learn more then here are a few links to follow up;

Nik has made a beautiful comment when he says we need to be students of the English Language throughout our life. The learning process never ends. Putting a time frame to get comfortable with the English Language by itself is ridiculous.
Nowadays so many neologisms get coined pertaining to the English Language. The bottom line is whether your students feel a sense of achievement at the end of the training program.
Try to watch Lonny Gold performing on youtube :) You can see an entire suggestopedia class in a few parts with an introduction, explanations and comments.
