There are a plenty of reasons for using stories with young learners.
Children are curious to learn new things in life and if grown-ups pave the path of learning more smoothly by using attractive stories, the stories which are not against human clean nature but convey a moral or real good experience of the past, colored by fascinating photos and pictures, can effect children to learn faster.
We usually forget less when we learn something in a text enriched by nice relevant pictures and when it is told through a charming story by an experienced teacher, children show eagerness in listening and will be induced to ask questions about the events of occurred in stories. That's why some publishers ask psychologists to choose the best colors for their books bindings.
In brief the following are some benefits of using stories with children:
1-Exercising imagination, prediction and anticipation.
2-Introducing the child to other cultures and customs.
3-Learning new vocabularies in context
4- Getting familiar with the rhythm, intonation, and music of the language
Furthermore, when children get back to their homes and they are asked how their day was, they begin to retell the nice stories they heard and in this way they enjoy playing or coping the characters mentioned in the stories.

Dear Friend,
Using stories in EFL/ESL classes is one of the best techniques experienced teachers usually use. This technique is said to be used for the following aims:
A. to motivate and entertain the students
B. to improve listening skills
C. to improve fluency
D. to improve pronunciation
E. to improve group work skills and group interaction
F. to create an atmosphere in which learning is both pleasurable and possible for every student

Hi
Stories are a wonderful way to teach young learners English as they provide contexts which children can relate to and which motivate and excite them.
Storybooks, which take your question one giant step further(!), provide invaluable visual (and linguistic) support for both young learners and primary school teachers.
With the right amount of language input and activation before seeing the storybook children are able to:
Children love storybooks in their own language and with teacher guidance they can use the reading, picture interpretation and creative skills they already use in their first language along with their cross-curricular knowledge and have a very positive learning experience.
Storybooks are obviously not the same as storytelling where you don't necessrily use an actual book. This puts more pressure on the teacher and provides less visual support for the learners.
Feel free to have a look at our website to see how we use storybooks to teach English to young learners.
